Hi, fellow KTM owners.  I am looking to add a couple of older bikes to my collection of late model KTM's. So just a starter with some general enquires:
(a) Does anybody know the first model Motorcross KTM version to be sold in Australia?
(b) How rare is the 1973 MC250? ie. chances of finding one for sale??
(c) Alternatively, what other MC versions are around, pre 81(?) ie. dual rear shock.  That are attractive.
(d) and lastly.... obviously... anyone have any they would like to move on to a good home...??

G'day Ash, welcome to the forum!

(a) The first one to land in Australia was inported from the USA!  Old Kirkpatrick in Bunbury (WA) heard about a Penton, and after corresponding with John Penton he imported one in 1972.  Only after it arrived did he only realised it was a KTM! After that he ordered a shipment from Austria. The restored 1972 175 on this site was in the first few shipments to arrive.

(b) The 1973 250 is pretty rare, if you look through the VMX Magazine you'll see that there are a couple floating around, but not many.

(c) All KTMs are attractive (well, maybe not the orange ones).  There are examples of all MC models from 1972 in Aust, just hard to find them!

(d) You might be lucky to find something - depends where you live.  Keep an eye on eBay, I've seen a couple come up over the years - the most recent was a 1975 GS400 in Queensland.

Thanks Admin.

I have a particular interest in the 72 or 73 year versions, so if anyone is interesting in selling (restored or un restored), I would like to hear from you.
